| In search of our "Kunkel Family" roots, my sister Debra and I went to Germany in June, 2000. Our main destination was the historical town of Seligenstadt, Germany where our great grandparent's family lived for generations prior to emmigrating to the United States in 1870s.
Knowing that we may never go back to Germany again, we decided to extend our tour to "The Best of Germany". Our journey began in Frankfurt and began with an excursion from St. Goat past all the medieval castles and vinyards that line the mighty Rhine River up to Bonn and Cologne. From Cologne we traveled to Hamburg, Berlin, Dachau, Potsdam, Dresden, Bayreuth, Nuremberg, Rothenburg, Munich, Oberammergau, Bodensee, Baden-Baden, Heidelberg, and back to Frankfurt. On our last day we went to Seligenstadt, which is located just southeast of Frankfurt on the Main River. The following pictures capture the essense of our "journey into our family's past"! |
